Steering problem 700 1986

When driving down the road behind a semi the Volvo seems to sway latterally (side to side) in a rapid manner. Why is it doing this and what part(s) failure would cause this to occur? Parts that have been replaced are as follows:

Outter tie rod ends

Lower ball joints

Strut rod bushings

Sway bar end links

** The power steering rack has been professionally flushed

This seems like it should be a suspension issue. I just don't know what part of the suspention has the majority of control over the latteral movement of the vehicle. Is it the rear bushings? Shocks/Struts?

I appreciate any help you may give.
Please, email me at tekline@hotmail.com

The air flow coming off the semi causes your car to oscillate back and forth. The air sheds in vortices that alternate side to side.

I'd guess the bushings for lateral compliance, and possibly rear suspension linkages? Or just quite driving behind semi's. :D

Hello Tim:

My guess is bent wheel(s). Try swapping front to back and see if it goes away.

My 88 245 used to be severely buffeted by wind (cross, not the semi produced kind). Put on some IPD sways and the increased stability is amazing.
