Caliper rebuild or buy rebuilt?

What is your opinion on rebuiling calipers yourself or buying rebuilts?
Do you need any specialized tools for the job? Is the saving worth it?

Alan

    Caliper rebuild or buy rebuilt?

I just disassemble, clean, reassemble with new seals. What it amounts to is replacing a square o-ring(square o-ring?)and the dust cover on each piston. Did a friend's recently and replaced a caliper because it was in stock locally and I couldn't get a seal kit without ordering. FCP Groton sells Girling and ATE kits.

Rebuilding calipers are not too bad.
    You would need:
Caliper Rebuilding kit (usually has few O-Rings for sealing pistons)
1 - 5 thin wodden block to buffer the piston as you pressurize the brake system
Brake bleeding kit, either your close friend to do the pumping job, or 1 person pressure bleeder.
A bucket to catch the brake fluid
    # gloves, it will get messy

It took me 3 hours when I did it for first time, and spent about $30 for parts.
