I recently picked up an old underdash quad 8-track player. I want to hook it up to my 1980 245, but am somewhat stumped. The picture shows my current setup. As you can see from the picture below, I already have a stock volvo 8-TRACK installed, and I would like to keep that unit in the car as well, (since the underdash has no radio.) First off, where should I mount this unit? I considered removing the glove box, but I would have quite a reach from the driver's seat, and I would loose the glove box. Anyone ever install an underdash componant in these things?

Secondly, does anyone know if there is a reasonable way to wire my second 8-TRACK player's front speakers into the pre-existing stock stereo speakers? I don't want to risk damaging the pre-existing radio. If I don't have install new seperate front speakers, all the better.

Thirdly, Has anyone ever installed a Quadraphonic sound system in a 240, no less a wagon? I was going to just put some rear speakers in the back doors, but the sound of those would be muffled quite a bit, and I can't have that (since the rear speakers are not just stereo for the back seat.) If this were a 244, I would think this to be a bit easier, but it's not, and I have to make due.

By the way, my car doesn't have power windows, so I have a little more room inside of the door panals for things like speakers, but not much.

True quadraphonic sound, as it was understood in the 70s, will not be achieved by installing four speakers. This will merely give you four channels of two-channel stereo, not quad. You'd have to install a quad receiver, and I don't know that such a beast exists for car audio. Maybe you could find an old Marantz quad receiver on eBay and figure out how to wire it into your car's electrical system (joking).

What are the dimensions of the aftermarket 8-track?
