Air Conditioner 700 1991

I have a 1991 740 non turbo with air conditioner not operative. For a period of time prior to this it operated intermitantly. It was checked over a few weeks ago and ok at that time (during the inter period). It has a new compressor and been converted to 134 refrig. It now does not operate at all. When the compressor clutch is activated with a jumper it cools very well. It appears to be an electrical problem and I would suspect a relay however no a/c relay is listed for this car.

Try replacing the pressure switch that the wires you jumped plug into. It is fairly inexpensive and you should be able to locate it, if you jumped the wires. It has a shrader valve to keep in the coolant so not to worry just unscrew it and replace it. My 2 Cents worth.

Check the FAQs and some of Fosters posts regarding this problem. I had a similar situation last year. It was resolved by resoldering the circuit board that controls the engagemant of the compressor. Try this MCC Not Working as a start.

God Luck!
