Feasibility of bypassing instrument light rheostat module? 700 1988

The expense of a rheostat module(salvage purchase includes entire instrument assembly) lead to a suggested bypass of a failed module to a fixed full brightness display. I hesitate because the module circuit board has a lot of electronic commponents in both the bulb and the ground circuits and is not a simple rheostat. Obviously, I don't want to fry the instrument circuits. Anyone have any such experience with such a bypass or an understanding of what all those resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc. actually are used for?

I bypassed the rheostat in my 1987 240 about eight years ago and never had a problem. The dash lights are always full bright.I used a short piece of 14 gauge wire, with 1/4 inch male spade connectors. Connect them right in line with the wiring where the rheostat goes.

Thanks for the reassurance, but did your 240 have the module with its considerable electronics that was powered by the rheostat and fed to the instrument lights? The actual rheostat is soldered on this circuit board contained in an L-shaped plastic enclosure approximately half the size of a cigarettte package. It has the red, blue, and black leads. Thanks again.
