What pressure should the low side on a factory 134a A/C be? 900

Well I've got a 1993 r134a system in my 1993 944T....stock system not a retrofit. Well i managed to get a leak in the system over the winter and lost all pressure (push on schrader valve yeilds 0 pressure) on the low side. I added 12oz refrigerant and 3oz ester oil (premixed in a can) through the low side pressure port. Compressor now kicks in so i'm happy for that, but What PSI should it be at? I read between 25 and 45 PSI at this port as the compressor turns on and off and it cycles quite a bit....is that normal/ok....or do i need more refrigerant (I have no way of knowing how much refrigerant was in the system except that no pressure was there prior to adding the can)

Thanks

I have a 960 so I am no expert on the 940 but here are my thoughts.

Compressor cut out is controlled by a switch on the accumulator and cannot be used to indicate that the system is fully charged. Rapid cycling is a indication of low charge.

If you had zero pressure the system was empty. the system capacity is on a label under the hood. Install that amount counting the oil. Dye might help locate the leak.

The low side won't tell you a whole lot, but the pressures are approximately right. The low reading could be a little lower, but it seems that a lot of 134a systems from Volvo are set a tiny bit high. The higher reading is about right as well.

Cycling is dependent on the inside temperature, the outside temperature, the amount of refrigerant, etc.

Unless you know where you started from (how much refrigerant you have in the system) it is almost impossible to guess at if the charge is correct or not. Also, having refrigerant on top of a system at one atmosphere (no vacuum) does not allow a full charge. therefore the system won't cool as much, and it is hard to guess at the "right" pressure for the system. Since it all leaked out, it's going to all leak out again, so you'll have some opportunities to check for the leaky spot and find out what the problem is. Once you fix the leak, have the system vacuumed and charge with whatever the specs say for that system. Slightly undercharged won't kill it, but overcharging, especially on top of air, leads to poor performance.

THanks....i plan on using this as an excuse to find the leak, but wanted to make sure i dont blow anything up in the process.
