1995 960 A/C rebuild 900 1995

Hi, I am having the a/c rebuilt on my 95 960 sedan and have a few questions. The system has been vacant for three years. The evaporator, a/c filler valve, and O rings were replaced in July 2000. The system died three months later, and I left it. Now, we are replacing the condenser, receiver/dryer/accumulator, flushing the compressor/system hoses, replacing the compressor oil, dye testing for leaks and recharging with R143a. I plan to insist on plastic, stainless steel, or aluminum screws to hold the condenser in the corners. Any ideas what we should do to be sure it's done properly given the length of time the system has been vacant and the known Volvo a/c history? Let me know, thanks.

I would change all the high side lines/ o-rings at this time as well, relatively cheap. Also check to make sure the condensor fan is working, and that the evaporator drain is not blocked.

Ask them to do a leak test using nitrogen. The system should hold pressure for at least 24 hours. The nitrogen will also help to absorb moisture in the system.

Vacuumming the system does not always show minute leaks because the o-rings are sucked inwards causing a positive seal. Good Luck.

Let us know what happens.

Work Safely at all times.

Agree with the previous post, replace the orifice (expansion) valve, its cheap. You'll need a bunch of o-rings, Auto Zone has packets for about 2 bucks, get a couple. Go with an OEM condenser, yeah I know, it costs more, but it will be worth it. Good luck.

You should be OK. Flushing will remove any dirt and water; the new accumulator will add dessicant. Changing the compressor oil is a very good idea.

Consider a new orifice valve as well, since the old one may be clogged with debris. Think about a variable orifice valve. See the FAQ.

After it's all back together, draw a long vacuum and make sure no leaks occur.
