Anyone know how to confirm old or newer style fuel pump? 200

Got my $20 no name DMM from Meijer last night

measured the amperage for my Transfer Pump (intank fuel pump) and found it to be 1.8A

so either I have the older version of the Transfer pump (for early '86 models) or my pump is drawing half the Amperage it should and is perhaps failing.

anyone know how to confirm that I have the early style in-tank pump?

thanks,

jack

If your current draw is that low, I'll be it's the smaller older style - but this isn't usually a problem on non-turbos - unless you're bored and stroked to 2.7 liters, high compression and remapped the fuel delivery requirement.

A quick call to the dealership should do this. Have your VIN number on hand if needed, but they can usually tell you based on the Month/Year your car was manufactured. You can get the Month from the tag that's on the driver's door. I've discovered that some items were changed to the next model year at mid production and the dealership has asked me a couple times what the month was.

Glad to here you've got a least a semi-functioning pump, if not a good working one.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

Not much help from the 2 dealerships in town

they didn't seem to be interested in tracking down my model year/parts data,

maybe expanding knowledge is only a function of the brickboard!

well I guess I'll assume I have the older style since there is 1.2 A being drawn by the pre-pump and, although I'm suspicious of some noise in my main pump, it is still working.

anyway thanks guys.
