760 turbo air con & wiring 700 1988

I have just got my first Volvo and would be interested in seeing a wiring diagram specifically as I am hoping that a faulty relay is causing lack of air con. Can anyone help please?

I'd be very surprised if 15-year old A/C isn't completely discharged, and in need of a new compressor, condenser, hoses, and probably the R134a conversion kit. This is the toughest system to keep working on any old car, and 760s are known to be even tougher than most due to the complicated auto climate control. With any luck, that module is still good and the AC just needs work.

Well thanks Rob thats good to know that at least its a challenge! Since compressor does not kick in I was trying to find a way to at least get that running. Auto climate apart from air con seems to work OK so maye it is not the soldered connections I read about in this forum. Any ideas why compressor wont go -turns ok by hand

        Sorry for delay in response.
All AC systems have a pressure switch, so that if the system is discharged, the compressor can't kick on. This is because the compressor is lubricated by entrapped oil in the refrigerant. IF no refrigerant, no oil- if no oil, no compressor after about an hour. YOu can locate the pressure switch ( I think it's on your receiver/dryer, back by the firewall, right side) and jumper the wires to make the compressor turn on. If the system is fully discharged, you won't get any cooling, but at least you can verify that the compressor is functional and not seized.
I'd have a shop do a pressure test (usually charge the system with nitrogen or similar) and/or a vacuum test. If there's nothing obvious, a dye can be added and then detected after it leaks out again.
This car's a good candidate for conversion to R134a, the Volvo kit is under $70.
        Good luck!
