possible solution but need some help 200

After looking extensively through the manual there was a mention of a CIS computer under the passanger kick panel, I looked and while the wires were all there the computer had decided to go away on vacation. Since the car still runs is it possible that a new one has been installed elsewhere. If not will this have any effect on the rough idle of the car or the fact that the car is running rich enough to smell the gas being pumped out the exhaust. If so does anyone have a parts number for one to fit an 80 dl non turbo and an idea of cost. Thanks for any answers.

    Impossible.

The computer in the kick panel did not show up until Turbo and LH Jetronic models. To know that a fuel computer belonged there you would have a big 24-pin connector and a car that would not run without it. Excessive rough/uneven idle on older bricks can usually be attributed to carbon build up on various intake surfaces and/or leaky injector seals.

don't see how its impossible, the picture in the haynes manual shows it. It's the constant idle speed computer below the fuel injection computer. The fuel injection computer is still there if thats the piece with the 24 connectors, its the constant idle speed computer that's missing which is obvious based on the two sets of wires haging down that match those of the computer. I'm curious if getting a new one would fix the problem, what it would cost, and what the numbers are to find a new one.

The CIS "box" (computer)is an all plastic unit about half the size of the ECU.It is usually black and looks exactly like the cruise control control box although i think the cruise box is yellow.
