Replacing FPR, do I lube the O-ring? 700 1988

Just got back to my desk to find my new fuel pressure regulator from Groton. I'm looking forward to installing it tonight but don't know if I should lube the O-ring that presses into the fuel rail with anything. A little oil?

Thanks,

    Replacing FPR, do I lube the O-ring? 700 1988

    Hi Erwin,

Do me favor. When I replaced mine (for no real reason but so that it looks shinny) I find a change in fuel consumption (increase) and I now have code 2-3-1 (rich or lean mixture at cruise). Haven't put back the old one yet.

Let me know if you have such an issue. I bought the fcpgroton one too (bosch in a box). Not sure if that is the original manufacturer. Do you know?

I assume that since you're mentioning codes, you've got an 89+ non turbo or a 90+ turbo. Right? Did you order the proper part? It sure looks like different regulators are listed for the three or so possible injection setups. There's also the possibility that your FPR was just bad in the box.

Will do. My mileage has been a consistent 20-21mpg regardless of what I do with the gas pedal. The plugs indicate a very lean mixture so I don't think I'm finished with this.

I'll check the FPR I pulled off but I believe its a Bosch also.

    Thanks 700 1988

We didn't have any Vaseline or Chapstick around the house so I used a tiny bit of silicone grease. Pulling the old one off took some force and I was afraid of ruining something but it came right out after rocking it a little.

The new one went in easily and most of my hesitation is gone now. Still have to investigate other possible causes.

    Thanks,

I'm with Tony H. and Steve. I just replaced mine two days ago. I couldn't get it on without vaseline.. There was too much friction and I was afraid the force required otherwise would break something.

When I did one, I had Chapstick in my pocket at the time so I used it.
Vaseline works good too. Just a very little bit. so it makes the 'O'ring look shiney without any globs on it.
