When I had the car on stands yesterday I thought I'd check the front end for play just for good measure.

Wiggling the front wheels back and forth in the 9 and 3 o'clock positions shows no play

Wiggling the front wheels back and forth in the 12 and 6' o'clock positions shows some play. It's looks like a few mm (at the edge of the tire) coming from the wheel bearings. You can almost feel it more than see it.

I haven't checked this before and don't know who much play is normal so any advice is appreciated.

If the bearings are loose or worn, you'll get the same play at 9&3 as at 12 & 6.

You might have bushing or ball joint wear.
