240 1990 Headlights blink off 200 1990

Hi All...
OK... I'm driving with my brights on.. meet a car & hit my dimmer switch & suddenly I have no headlights at all. I hit the brights again & I have brights.... try the dimmer switch again & I have low beams.. So now sometimes I have low beams other times I have no headlights at all... HELP.. Thanks Jen

    there is also a small square relay just under the carpet on the drivers side about where your left foot rests to the left of the brake pedal, it sometimes shorts out against the metal clip it is attached too, youll see the plastic connector is all melted and distorted. it is the power supply to the switch on the dash.

    Hmmmmmmmm... Sounds like the stepping relay. In case you don't know, it's a large silver relay mounted on the inside of the LF fender, on a rail with the infamous 25amp fuse, and the power distribution box.

    It makes a good click when the high/low switch is actuated. But that doesn't mean the contacts are good. Buy a new one - check BBRD advartisers for aftermarket first - and keep the old one. It may be repairable. The job is a level 1 (or less) DIY job.
