Can anyone tell me how the engine code (on the driver's side of the block) translates to block type? I would like to know what type of B20 (Ex: B20A, D, E, etc...)is presently under my hood.

I never made sense out of the numbers, but it's not the block that determines the engine type. It's the head and camshaft.

Carbureted B20s:
All the same head casting, but with three compression ratios ranging from 8.71 - 9.5:1. 42mm intake valves, 35mm exhaust valves.
B20A has the A cam, used mostly auto-transmission cars.
B20B has the C cam.

Injected B20s:
All have the D cam, heads with 44mm intakes and 35mm exhausts.
B20E has a 10.5:1 CR head.
B20F has a 8.7:1 CR head.

(The E and F heads are different castings -- you cannot take .080" off the F head and make it an E head.)

Note: Not sold in the U.S. but in Canada and other markets, there's a carburetor F head. It's the same as the FI version, but without injector ports or openings for D-jet fittings.

There were two different kinds of fuel injection on
the B20F motors -- k and d and they use different cam
profiles. The heads themselves are also different
between the different injection setups.

Oh yeah... I should have said EFI motors, not just Injection motors. CIS (K-jet) B20F motors are just like the other B20Fs except using a K cam instead of the D.

I think you said that...

The F heads are interchangeable but the injector mounts are different.
