B230 instead of B23F? 200 1983

If I need to replace my B23F, will a B230 from a later model fit without any serious adjustments? What about the ECU? Will I need the newer one to control the B230?
Thanks in advance

    Hello B'Man:
    That B23 block is still sitting here waiting for you to pick up for free...was running great when I swapped it out...no head, though. Come & get it.
    let me know.

    It is a bolt in replacement. Be sure to get a B230 from a 240 which has the block mounted distributor. Use the existing distributor and fuel injection components

      block mounted distributor.
      Block-mounted? Is the other kind behind the valve cover next to the firewall?

      Use the existing distributor and fuel injection components.

      Use MY dist stuff, or the 230?

        The B230F in the 700 series uses a cam driven distributor mounted on the rear of the head.

        Use the distributor and fuel injection componects from the B23. Your B23 should have LH 2.0 Jetronic. I don't know if the injectors are the same as for the LH 2.2, but if they are you can use the B230F injectors (not if the donor engine has Regina fuel injection) and probably the fuel pressure regulator.

        John probably meant "use the existing dist/fuel stuff from your car". Yes, the other type of dist is the head mounted one from the 700/900 series (not all of them in the US though).

        One issue though: Does your '83 have K-jet (mechanical fuel injection, a pump and lots of pipes under the manifold and pipes to injectors in the block) or early L/LH-jet (electronic fuel injection, pump somewhere and a fuel rail and fuel injectors with electrical connections on the manifold) ?

        If it has L or LH you can indeed just drop in the longblock and transfer your ancilaries. If you have K-jet you'll find a lack of injector holes in the new head, in which case you'd either need to have a machine shop drill those holes or transfer the wiring, air filter box and plumbing, sensors and ECU over from the donor vehicle.

        Bram
