Can anyone share information about the bottled fuel injector cleaner that you mix with a tank of fuel? Is it safe? Not recommended? The tiny allen-key adjustment screw on the fuel head of my 1980 244 is dodgy and causing some idling problems -- i only have to tap it to alter the idle between 800-1500 rpm, which I suspect is the cause of my poor fuel economy. Am thinking of injecting some cleaner . . . or is this a bad idea?

I put a can of BG 44k in the tank of my 91 240 at 165k, and drove on a trip. There was a small but noticeable increase in power and currently (several months later) at 176k, the gas mileage is still about 1mpg better than before I used the product.

It's about $20 per can. I went on internet website to find closest retailer.

AMSOIL PI, 6 ox per 10 gal in full tank for first cleanup, then 1 oz per 10 gal maintenance.

Techron from chevron is an excellent additive to add to your gas tank. DOes a great job and is available at places like walmart. BG products makes something called 44K which is great, available at some garages.

I've never seen a statement from volvo on fuel additives (they do say not to add anything to the oil, though) but click and clack from Cartalk recommend these and I can attest to them.

it's probably a good idea to try one of these, even if you problem is not related to the fuel injectors.

Best and most economical: Techron. STP Premium is also good. Others will clean the fuel system and injectors but may not remove combustion chamber deposits.

These work very well and are highly recommended.

I use either Redline or Techron. I think you can only use 1` or 2 bottles between oil changes.
