Sudden failure of P/S belt - A/C clutch seized? 200

Hi Folks.

After running the A/C for about half an hour the other day, the car suddenly lost power assist for the steering. Popped the hood to find that the belt had slipped off the pulley and looked like it was cracked almost all the way through at one point. Brand new belt, too.

Possible that the A/C clutch seized and caused the belt to fail, or was it just installed incorrectly? Have not ran A/C since.

You'll have to look at the alignment of the pulleys to see if they're running straight or not. It should be very easy to tell. If they're out of line, you need new "accessory bushings" that mount the PS pump.
If it is the AC compressor, you should be able to tell by turning it by hand with the belt off. It will be easy to turn when not running, and if it's seized, it will be impossible to turn by hand when engaged.
The PS pump should always be able to be turned by hand.

How is the engine to AC belt. That one should be fried if the AC compressor seized. It does happen that way. Not sure if the PS pump can also seize.
