Replacing carpet 700

I found new carpets for my car. They came from a '96 960 and I figured that they would do well in my '90 740 GL. They are larger but cutting the excess length under the seats seems to be harmless enough. They also have much more foam on the under side. The extra foam seems to fit OK. My toughest challenge is to get the carpet back up under the console panels which extends forward and under the dash.
Can anyone advise as to how I should loosen the panels so that I can more easily slide the thicker 960 carpet up under those two panels. The only bolt I see cannot be tightened after the carpet is in place.

I would cut the carpet with scissors so only abut 1/2 to 1" needs to be tucked up under the side panel with a screwdriver. Thats the easy way. The other way is to open the center console , pry up the cover in the bottom, unscrew the two phillips screws. Also unscrew the two phillips screws in the cubby box right under the handbrake handle, take out the ashtray, and the fusebox cover , remove the clip in the center under the fusebox cover, lift up the plastic cover for the shift indicator and handbrake. Now you can slide the centerconsole back and reveal the two screws on the side holding the side cover. There is also a screw on the side further forward. Now you can pull the sidepanel out and tuck the carpet up under it. Slit the carpet as necessary to get it in properly around the screw brackets. If you want to remove the panel completely ask for further instructions. I have done it many times.

Swede4,
Thanks for the tip. I had already removed the two bolts but hadn't seem or found those two screw heads hiding and pointing in the other direction. Had to borrow a truck tonight and trade my project away for a day or I'd be in the garage and not typing. Can't wait to finish this one up.
I'm also going through the dash and conole to replace all old blue bulbs with clear. I usually get those from old instrument clusters that are about to get crushed. The final project on this car will be the haed liner. Lots of tips for that in the Forum.
Thanks
Mike
