Air Mass Meter cover 200

My '84 non-turbo 242 is missing the cover plate for the air mass meter PCA. Is this a critical component (seems like cold air can enter this way)? Any ideas where to find a replacement? I've already checked the local salvage yards. BTW, the car has been experiencing hesitation and bucking under load while the engine is cold.

Assuming I do need a new meter, what is the Bosch p/n for an '84 240? From what I've seen, the number is on the cover plate so I'm unable to determine the correct replacement part. What other 240 years will use this same part? From the IPD catalog it looks like the '83-'84 part is different than '85-'88.

"...components inside that cover are photosensitive and will be damaged with sunlight."

Can you elaborate on this?

some of the electronics on the circuit board inside are damaged by sunlight. that is why bosch put silicone glue all around the edge of the cover, if you remove it they will not accept is a core.

Oh. I had imagined the covers were sealed to keep moisture out.
