Are there any simple things...? 200

Are there any simple things I can do to make my Volvo faster?
Keeping in mind I'm not a master mechanic.
Thanks
AKM

Take it to Nitrous Oxide Systems in Whittier, CA, and have a 200hp shot installed. When you scatter the Volvo motor, install an American V8 motor with the same system. You'll never regret it!

A cat-back exhaust using larger diameter pipe (like 2 1/2 inch), no front muffler, and a "turbo" rear muffler only, will probably develop 5 more horsepower and a better torque curve.
IF the car is a 1988 or older, and you promise to run premium gas, you can probably advance the distributor about 6 degrees for more power- perhaps more.
Beyond that... you need a cam, adjustable cam gear, or more significant head work.

Quality performance tires on 15" wheels will make it handle better and look better too.

Just curious, why can't you advance the timing on pre-88 models?

On POST-88 models the ignition is timed to a crankshaft position sensor, mounted on the bellhousing. Rotating the distributor won't change ignition timing.

One other performance mod is to block the hot air feed from the exhaust manifold 'stove'. I opened up the air filter box and removed the flapper door and the failure-prone thermostat. I also removed the silencer 'horn' from the ducting which feeds air into the filter box from the grille area. Make sure your air filter is clean.

First tune up and maintenance. How old are your plugs, wires, cap&rotor. How is the timing...you get the idea. I recently replaced my O2 sensor and noticed a significant improvement in idle quality and midrange power.

Make sure your air filter thermostat is functioning properly or better yet, remove it for cold only air intake. You can also consider the electric fan conversion. Neither will make the car a screamer but should give it just a bit more oomph. Both have been covered in this forum and in the aftermarket forum.

Try www.turbobricks.com or www.volvospeed.com for more ideas.

I'm waiting for an Enem V15 cam. That should make for a fun upgrade!
