'84 242 hesitates when cold 200

I've got a non-turbo 1984 242... starts fine when cold but hesitates and seems to misfire under load while accelerating. Once warmed up (1-3 minutes) things seem to be fine. I'm planning on a general tune up anyway (cap/rotor/plugs/air filter/fuel filter) but I don't anticipate this solving the problem. Where else should I look?

do a compression test on your car. One or more of your rings might be worn out and don't compress right. when it warms up they expand and compress better. But my experience was that when I replaced my spark plugs with the correct ones this type of problem went away. Some dumb volvo mechanic put the wrong ones in my car and it ran like crap.

what sparkplugs are recommended?
