fluttering noise under dash - 89' 740T 700

Recently I've starting hearing intermittitly a fluttering noise from under the dash or behind the instrument console. I'm quite sure it's not the fan. It sounds like a cable twisting up inside a sheath and then unraveling. Is it possible that the speedo cable could be doing this? The speedo seems to be working fine (smooth) as well as the odometer.

    There is a vacuum line behind the dash which controls the boost gauge. Could this be the source of your sound? Is it also possible some wires are contacting the steering column? Sorry I cant be of more help.
