Drivers seat back tilts forward won't tilt back 1994-965 900 1994

Need advise. My mechanic checked the continuity of the switch and said it is fine, but the seat tilt will only go forward. IT is to erect! Big pain! He seems hesitant to fix it. Thinks a motor is bad. He suggested that we/I find a complete seat (biege). Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, if you can't find any other way to fix that one, the transmission underneath the seat should be the same as any older 760 power seat. There are quite a few of those turning up in the junkyards these days.
Any seat with decent upholstery is going to cost quite a bit- look for the filthiest one you can find.

It also may be possible for you to disassemble it and reverse the connection at the motor- so you can at least move the seat back to a comfortable position for now. I can't remember if the seat has limit switches in the motor to stop it at each end of the travel- if it does, one could be stuck, preventing movement in one direction but allowing it in the other. That would explain why the switch checks out too. Again I'm not certain whether it's got an electric or mechanical limit.
I do know also that the seat back drive cables have been the source of much consternation - the FAQ has lots more on that.
    Good luck!

Buy a can of residue-free electrical contact cleaner (at an electronics store) and absolutely soak the offending switch with this cleaning spray. Work the switch back and forth while doing this. Allow the spray to evaporate off and try it again. If it doesn't work, buy a used seat controller mechanism (often on ebay).

    Good luck!

It is the same motor that makes the seat tilt forward and back. So it would not be the motor. Also, it is the same cable that makes the seat tilt forward and back. So it is not a broken cable.

The switches are known to get dirty so I would bet on the switch contacts. Your mechanic said he checked continuity? Maybe he was sure that the switch was getting power but, I doubt he checked that the switch was functioning properly.

You may want to check the FAQs on the procedure to remove and clean the switch contacts.
