Hood won't shut - Need Help!

Thanks Bob for your reply,

I have a 240.
It is quite possible that the hinges may not have been lubed in a while. I recently brought this car used. As for the hinge bending, it is very cold here now and not sure if it was related. the hinge is bent inward at the joint from upper to lower parts of the hinge that bolt to the frame and hood respectively. It almost like the scissors like action of the hinge wouldn't completely close causing the part that bolts to the hood to bend.In need of replacement,Help

Hood won't shut , use a lot of duck tape, temp, and then...........

tell the BBRD what car you have. 240? 740?

Hinges are pretty tough, seldom bend.

However, the hood is designed to bend in a crash, and has little "V" dents along its side rails for this. If the hinges get really bound up, usually due to never being lubricated, the hood can begin to bend a little at those "V" notches. Then the pin(s) are not in the right place to go into the latches.

Is that what you have?

Good Luck,

Bob

Actually, Bob, the 240 hinges bend rather quickly 'n easily if they haven't seen lubrication in a dog's age. I've seen it happen a number of times... And so, I always squirt a few drops when I change the oil.

Drops of oil, I mean.

OK, so they can bend. How we gonna help this guy.............

get the @#^%@$@ thing closed before the snow packs the engine bay full?

The link has bent - don't know how far. Seems to me the easiest way to a tempo fix, after the duck tape, is to straighten the link.

If it were me, I would rig something up using a piece of something real rigid, like angle iron, across the pivot points, and then put a large "C" clamp across that piece to the point of the bend. Screw that sucker tight, wearing gloves and glasses, and see it if gets straight enough to let the hood latch.

Maybe there's some pictures?

Replacement link has to be a junkyard item. The links come off, I think. Need heavy duty leverage to handle the springs. BTDT

Good Luck,

Bob
