960 Hesitation 900 1997

I think my 960's suicidal. For the third time since I've owned the car, it's hesitated during a time when I NEED to get moving. I'll hit the gas, but the car seems to stay on idle for 2 to 3 seconds. Every time this has occured, the car had been started in the past 4-5 minutes, and I've opened the throttle to 1/4-1/2 the way. Any ideas what could be causing this? The car is a 1997 964 with 103,000mi.

When my 96 965 did that, it was the front O2 sensor that fixed it. Have someone read the codes. But I understand that the sensors get "lazy" first before full failure, and may not set clear cut codes.

Just an idea...

When you need a burst of power the ECU usually knows this because the throtle position sensor has changed position rapidly. Perhaps yours is becoming worn and doesn't always measure correctly. Check to see if any codes are set in the OBD-II.

That's a great idea! I always thought that the TPS on the 960s was like those found on the B230s, where it only has three positions. I glanced at the wiring diagram and saw the B6304 has a resistor somewhere in the TPS. FCP has 'em for $37. Not bad! Maybe I'll take my car to AutoZone to get the codes scanned. Thanks for your (quick) reply!
