Oil Drain Plug 900 1995

I tried to change the oil this weekend but couldn't get enough leverage on the drain plug using a standard wrench and lying on my back - it was really tight. The plug is bigger than any of the sockets that I have. What size is the plug? I will try to get the right size socket which should help to get it off.

Thanks.

probably 1", i replaced my drain plug with a magnetic one from IPD. make sure you're not turning it the wrong way also. it's a normal nut, meaning couterclockwise is the direction to turn it to loosen it. breaker bar will help immensely. don't overtorque when replacing.

1" 6 point socket and biggest 1/2 " breaker bar you own
i would replace oil drain plug peroidically also, especially if
overtorqued as you describe

What kind of car do you have? Four cylinder or six cylinder?

For the four banger, you should have a 24mm or 25mm (whatever the closet to 1" is) size head on the drain plug. Unless you've got an oil temperature sender (you'd see wires coming from the drain plug).. and I believe that's a 22mm head.

And as everyone else pointed out, check/replace the copper washer. I don't bother with oil filters at the dealer ($10), instead I go for Mann filters ($3 or so at FCP Groton). However, I don't have any trouble getting a few of the washers from the dealer for free anyways. It's worth a shot, otherwise you can get them for cheap online if you must.

Cresent Wrench should fit. That is what I use. Always change the copper O ring. Itis cheap at the dealer. I get it for free when buying my filter there. Yes the filter is more money, but my baby is worth it.

if it's a 940 it should be 25mm or you can use 1in socket. You should also install a new or inspect the copper washer that goes on the plug.
