Cleaned engine- Now car won't turn over every time- Help! 200 1990

Hello, I cleaned my engine with simple green and a water hose. Now every now and then when you go to sart the car, it does nothing, then it wil turn over and start fine. What is happening?

1990 240- 230K- VX cam, springs, bilstiens, spt exh, euro lamps-turbo whls

I would disconnect and clean the battery terminals and, with the battery disconnected, do the same with the connections to the starter and the ground connection to the engine. Also check the condition of the 25 amp fuse up near the battery. Maybe some water and/or corrosion in those places.

condensation in the distributor cap?

A good suggestion, I should have remembered the times I washed my engine and had problems with water in the distributior cap. Pull the cap and dry it with a hair dryer.

I'm never sure what the phrase "turn over" means exactly, where engines are concerned. Has to originate from when cranking was really cranking I suppose.
