notch in steering???? 900 1992

I started noticing a few weeks ago that when turning right at higher speeds (60 Km/H +) like when going on an on-ramp, there seems to be a "notch" in the steering. As you turn the wheel about 4 inches, you can feel a resistance and then if you keep turning, you can feel like you are going over a notch in the sterring and it becomes normal again.

Any help would be appreciated

Try oiling the steering universal joints. THat's about the only thing that can cause this. They may be in such bad shape that you have to replace them but oiling them is free and may fix it. One's right down at the steering rack and the other is up closer to the firewall. Good luck.

Starting with the cheapest and easiest culprit...you may want to look at the steering column u-joint (look down past the master cylinder). Hopefully she's just dried out, and requires a splash of oil. I had a similiar notching problem, and it cleared up with a turkey baster full of 10w-30. It's probably happening at all speeds, but is just more noticable when you have to put less effort into turning the wheel. If this doesn't help...I'm sure others can find more difficult solutions.
