Do I have a 940 or 940 Turbo? 900

I have a 94 940 sedan. On the trunk it says "940" only. My 940 is still turbo charged and is the same motor as the 94 model that says "940 Turbo" on it (my friend has one). It has the the 15 inch (15 X 6) 20 spoke alloy wheels. It has the chrome grill and no fog lights between the grill and the headlights.

So,.. Is the only difference in the 940 Turbo: the black slotted grill, the 16 inch swept alloys, and the fog lights??? Or do I have a 940 Turno also, and there is a 1994 940 model that isn't turbo charged at all?

Thanks, explaining will help me find the proper parts and tire size etc.

Thomas

I have a early 94 945ti badged(was) as a 940. I have since debadged the car. The car came stock with Turbo, Leather heated seats, sunroof and Hydra wheels sporting 16/205/55's. So you should be able to at least get a tire that large on the car. I am sure it could handle 17's.

You really have to look under the hood. Starting in 93 or 94, the trunk lid insignia no longer differentiated between a "940" or "940Turbo", they all said "940".

Look for the presence of a turbocharger attached to the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

You can't really tell by the wheels, trim, etc., because by 94 or 95, the option and trim packages were all over the place.

My wife's 95 945T doesn't look like a turbo at all. The dealer replaced the black grille with the black/chrome grill just before we bought it, and it came with 15" steel wheels and hubcaps. Plus, it just says "940" on the tailgate, unlike my 91 944T, which had the black eggcrate grille, fogs between the grille and headlights, 16" "Hydra" alloys, and the "940Turbo" insignia on the trunk lid.

      Thanks for the insight,

Yes know mine is turbo since it has the turbo boost gauge on the dash - I just didn't kow what to call it when asked for a model.

Since you know these cars well would you happen to know what tire sizes I can go up to in width (for the 15 x 6 inch wheel I have)? The book said stock was 195 x 65, but my car has 185 x 65s on it. Optimally I would like to put 205 x 60s on it since i already know that this is the same circumfernce as a 195 X 65 - I just don't know if the wheel is wide enough to support it. The tires on it now just look awfully skinny.

      Thanks, Thomas

Badging's always been a bit of a mess really. My car is a polar, but still badged as a GL.

Yes, at least in the euro market, there were quite a few (in fact most) 940 that were not turbocharged. Basic parts are the same, so just make sure you get your parts for the right engine type (B230FT) and body style (sedan), and just be cautious when getting trim parts (which shouldn't be all too often really, and even then most everyting's interchangeable).

That'll get you fogs, too. I can get you the correct type of grille, too.
