would you recommend this car? 700

I have the opportunity to buy a 1988 760 turbo in v.g. condition for $2000. 200,000 miles. Body looks great, etc. but I haven't had a mechanic check it out. I currently own a 1995 850, but I hear these cars are pretty good. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have an 96 850 and an 89 760 turbo, the 760 was rearended and declared a total, I still enjoy it more than the 850. Mine has 170,000 and still running strong.

Problems in 3 years with 760:

Windows stopped working -- 2 hours and $0 to clean some electrical contacts in the switches.

Passneger Butt warmer -- removed switch reconnected wires. $0 10 minutes

Headliner falling -- industrial grade aerosol contact cement and the nozzle from a can of WD-40 $10.50 15 minutes

transmission filler tube -- stupid idiot at Jiffy Lube, lost his balance and bent the tube while holding on, causing serious loss of Tranny fluid. $170(their money not mine)

regular upkeep items -- oil, timing belt, air filters tires, etc.

Seats -- still look brand new

The 850 4.5 months

AirPump & SAS valve -- $350 1 hour

Cruise control -- has only worked when it want'd to, no vacumn leeks.

SRS light -- I fear finding what is wrong.

Power seat -- only Memory position 3 works

Seat leather -- looks like crap, severely cracked and faded.

Dash -- to many rattles and sqeeks to list.

Well let's see a 14 year old car that is a solid car or a 7 year old car that is troublesome

A couple of Q's

Headliner falling -- industrial grade aerosol contact cement and the nozzle from a can of WD-40 $10.50 15 minutes - Where can I pick up some of this stuff? What is it called and how did you apply it? My headliner is sagging in the back.

Passneger Butt warmer -- removed switch reconnected wires. $0 10 minutes - Did your butt warmers start working again after this? Mine have never worked BTW :). I believe a dealer disconnected them for the previous owner. Have no idea why.

The 760T is mechanically a great car- it's a Volvo. The drivetrain is as good as any Volvo. The car will have issues with accessory things, like the climate control, power sunroof, climate control, power seats, climate control, ABS brakes, climate control, power windows, and climate control. And the headliner will fall down on you, which all 700 and 900's are doomed to have.

Have the mechanic check it over for peace of mind, it's well worth it. The price seems fine.
