Intake Manifold Swap??? 200 1983

So why, you may ask, am I considering replacing the perfectly good intake manifold on my 83 245T with one from a B230FT?

My 83 is not intercooled, and I have a complete setup from an 85 244TI. The problem is that I don't want to loose the cruise control (sorry). The horizontal throttle cable spindle interferes with the hose from the intercooler to the manifold (it runs straight back along the left side of the bay). The stock 83 245T routes the output from the turbo across the valve cover. I don't think I have ever seen an 85 240TI with cruise. If so, is there an easier mod? If not, will the B230FT manifold fit my B21T? Thanks...

    Yeah, a B230 manifold should be a simple swap. The trickiest parts would be the cruise control and the intercooler to manifold ducting. Supposedly the 700 series ducting won't clear the stock P/S pump. Now you could adjust the P/S pump extremely close to the engine, swap it out for one with an external tank, go for a pump from a 93, grab the intake hoses from an 84 760T, or fabricate your own. FWIW I've not done the swap on either of my turbos, but both of them are intercooled with (non operational, but apparently hooked up) cruise control.

    Is your cruise control actuator located on the passenger's side or what?

    The 84 and 85 turbos can be equipped with cruise control. I have one. The double cam on the throttle does not cause a problem with the intercooler pipe. The actuator for the cruise is not in the normal place though. It was on the back side of the drivers shock tower, not on the passenger side firewall like on most 240s. I am not sure from your description what your problem is. Where is the actuator for your cruise control mounted? Mine is no longer set up that way because I converted it to a b230 intake. It is a better setup, but it is quite a bit of work to convert.

      OK, there is an easier way to the TB than what is shown in there. You can use the b21ft TB and tps switch without having to rewire the b230 TB. You can even leave the Cold Start Injector in the b21ft TB with out having to drill and tap the manifold. You can see mine inplace here: http://www.pbase.com/image/11088161 (note, you'll have to free it's line from the rest of the group, but thats not a problem).

      As for the linkage, because the b230 intake/TB points down the throttle arm points the wrong way on the b21 tb. So heres what you do:

      Grab a b230 linkage arm. Grind off the linkage ball tab on the b21 TB linkage so that the only part is the tab that works the stock tps switch. Then, slide the b230 linkage over the top of the top of the original and thats it! It sounds much worse than it really is trust me.
