OD on '93 945T won't engage

I drove from Iowa to Florida, stayed there a week, then when I was ready to drive back, the OD wouldn't engage during normal operation. The only way I could get the OD to engage was to accelerate normally to 55mph, then accelerate rapidly (push the pedal down quickly about 1.5 inches)to 60mph, then let up on the accelerator and it would shift. After doing this, I could cruise normally at interstate speeds. If I dropped below 45mph, I had to go through this process again to get the OD to engage. I've re-soldered the OD relay (re-soldered the fuel pump relay at the same time), and tried adjusting the downshift cable. Neither procedure solved the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions to solving this?

This sounds like a downshift cable problem. Make sure it actually moves properly. Try unscrewing it a bit as well.
If no results try a fluid flush.
If THAT doesn't help, there could be crud in the OD solenoid. That would restrict flow through it until the pressure got high enough. Replacing the solenoid may be the only fix. It may be possible to blow it out but there's no guarantee of that.
Whatever you do don't take it to a transmission shop before at least trying these things. If someone says it needs to be rebuilt, remember that a GOOD USED transmission is no more than $400. REbuilding runs about $900.
Good luck!

Down shift cable working properly? Check that it has free movement. Had to replace one recently on my 93 as it would hand up. Fluid levels ok?
