flametrap cleaning= no start 200 1987

black smoke and hesitation led me to brickboard maintenance tips.

saw flametrap as possible cause.

cleaned flametrap, small hose from flametrap to manifold, unclogged brass nipple that small hose connects to on manifold.
Cleaned larger of two nipples on manifold as well( leads to air control valve?).
I used carburator cleaner on all of this.

turns over but wont idle. seems not to be getting fuel

while removing the flametrap i may have pulled the tube under it out a bit.

could the air control valve have gotten messed up? I moved it to get to the flametrap.

thank you

There's a lot of stuff to bump/loosen/break around the intake manifold where you were working... check around there... injector connections, IAC connection, throttle position sensor...

    Good luck.

Try unpluging the AMM and see if it starts...and at idle only....if it starts you should here your air contrl valve (very low whurling sound)...you might be ok, don't know what would happen if you sprayed cleaner down into the valve. Again if the motor starts it might be your AMM.

thank you for the input on my first posting to this site.

it turns out the fuel filter was clogged. I was focused on the intake manifold area and never thought to check filter.
I did tape two sensor wires that had bad insulation while down there (flametrap area) .
      thank you

Brickboard has helped me do all my own repairs on my wagon.

A year ago I knew nothing about my car, now I jump right in to it. marking every part and taking notes of course.

      thank you
