Radio tape player 'drive belt' 200

Anyone know where I can find one of these rubber belts that drive the tape mechanism (volvo radio)? Trying to fix the tape player. And No I don't want to buy a new player, I'm trying to sell the car.

Thanks all for the advise. I remembered I also had old radio from an 89 (digital ones) in the attic and it ofcourse had the same size belt broken also. Anyway I used a smaller size belt from the 86 radio and used it in the 89. Well the tape works but not the radio, but it's ok for now.

    thanks

If you want to get brand new belts at a very good price try Studio Sound Electronics. They will mail them to you cheaply and most belts are about 50 cents each. I found the following sizes fit CR-712 and the earlier forget-the-number units using the Mitsu auto-reverse tape transports.

      Capstan SBS 8.9
      Reversing SBS 7.0
      Takeup SBS 5.6

I have had very good luck with Pacific Radio http://www.pacrad.com/index.shtml
They have 2 stores in So Cal, one in Nor Cal and one in Vegas. The store I used on La Brea in LA had an entire wall of cassette drive belts. It was a simple matter of matching up the size to the old belt.

I've replaced all three belts in mine just as a tune-up. You need to find a stereo repair shop that actually takes things apart and fixes them. Try calling around and ask if they carry belts for audio cassette players. I paid about $3 per belt. I had to take the belts and they matched them. I did find a website for parts including belts but have no experience with them. http://www.globalsemi.com/cat99/serviceparts180.html

I tried a rubber band once and the tape player developed a 'worble' sound due to unsteady speed on the tape.

Perhaps you might get lucky and find a long thin O-ring that would fit? O-rings are more uniform and less springy than a rubber band. ACE hardware usually carries collections of odd-sized O-rings.

Haroon: Your local tv/radio/vcr repair joint might just have a whole drawer full of them that they'll let you pick from for little or no money. Or, as an alternative, try an ordinary rubber band, especially if the car is going bye-bye. I've used them quite successfully, and with a little judicious shopping, you can find some that will last quite a long time.
