Plastic Expansion Tank 700

Gents:

Here's what I got......heat would only work at interstate speeds and my buddy at the Radiator Shop discovered I was losing coolant through the Expansion Tank (yes, the crappy plastic one on top).....his thoughts are to replace it. All I can find on the Volvo Parts Dealers on the Web are the same kind. Any ideas on getting a more heavy duty one??? It's an easy replacement since it's right there on top. Any help with sourcing would be MUCH appreciated.

The tanks go for around $35 and are good for about ten years. Buy one from FCP Groton or Bortons. Generics won't work; used have limited lifespans.

They typically leak at the bottom outlet where the hose fits.

Ringlee.....thanks.....that is exactly where it is leaking from. I'll get one from FCPGroton....they seem to be sharp people.

The square-style tank I got a few months ago from FCP Groton was a sturdy Volvo part, and well priced. My old tank was pretty rotten (check out the photo in the FAQ under Cooling) - but I think an 8-10 year service life for these things is pretty reasonable.

If your 760 has the oval tank, I don't know what to tell you... maybe consider buying a genuine piece from the dealer, if the web sellers only have aftermarket.

my 940t had an oval tank, just changed it to a square one...

reason being i wanted the water loss sensor! (and my tank was probably 10+ old...) had to make a bracket up to hold it - took about 30mins with a piece of flat stock aluiminium, saw, drill and pop riveter...really easy...

so i got a new tank, the water loss sensor and bigger capacity...

as to the heat thing only at highway speeds i had that too...changed the thermostat at the same time i did the tank, car now comes right up to heat in under 5 mins round town...
