Vehicle Speed Sensor 900 1995

940 Non-Turbo

Where exactly is the vehicle speed sensor and how do I check if it is okay?
I've read in some automobile books and they recommended checking the vehicle speed sensor and its wiring if the car idles badly.

I've done many things on my car to improve the intermittently lowering of the rpm at idle but nothing works.

Thanks for the help.

I agree with Ringlee, speed sensor has nothing to do with your idle speed.
Maybe you are thinking of the RPM sensor. If in doubt just replace it, it's pretty cheap on the net.

    Try this:

Does your car have a idle air control? (actually I have a 240)
take this out and apply some lubricant in it. It solved my intermittently high idle problems.

Also, check vacuum, perhaps just start replacing them. Also check your large air intake hose for cracks.

The vehicle speed sensor is mounted on the rear axle differential housing. The engine speed sensor is wired to the top of the bell housing. I can't imagine that the former would have anything to do with idle speed. The latter clearly does, since it reports rpms to the ECU.
