Problems with new parts 200

Beware of the Scan-Tech branded parts you may purchase for your Volvo. I've
bought three bad or improperly provided parts from them over the last year.
Be sure you check your parts carefully because some you won't be able
to return. I wrote to them via email and they won't reply to my email.
Here are the parts problems I had.
1.
Bought 2 front wheel bearing kits. Both sets don't fit the front spindle. They
won't slide over the spindle. Inner diameter is too small. Probably for an
earlier model Volvo. But BOTH boxes are marked with the correct part numbers.
2.
Replacement front hood release cable. Cable seems to be quality enough. However it is supplied without the locking clip to lock it to the hole through
the firewall. The clip is not sold by Scan-Tech. You must get the clip from
a Volvo dealer. What good is supplying a cable that you can't install? This
is a 2 cent piece of hardware that should be supplied with the cable. You
always need a new clip for this installation. Shame on you Scan-Tech.
3.
New style heater valve. I install this heater valve kit which includes most of
the parts I need to adapt the valve to my car. The installation goes OK. But,
after a couple of weeks of use I find out that the valve doesn't shut off the
heat. It will make it a very low setting but never completely shuts off the
flow. Now, I have to replace this thing again. Yes, the cable adjustment is corect. Bummer...going to have to do it again in the warmer weather.

I have bought good parts from them but this is really a shame. My fixes
for these problems are:1, 2 New SKF bearing kits which fit. 2 I'm going to
buy 2, 2 cent locking clips from dealer. 3, I have to buy another new heater
valve. I'll probably go back to the old style one but I'm not sure yet.
Hope this helps someone avoid any similiar problems.

I purchased a driver-side door handle. Went in like a dream and is still serving me well, that was about a year ago. Not a complex piece, but I was pleased with it. You might also try www.thepartsbin.com. I find lots of stuff there. Happy Brickin'.

    Dave-
Not sure what this means but I too have had trouble recently with very similar, but non-ScanTech:
    1) SKF bearings, front, stamped with the correct number (!) that would not fit the spindle, no way, no how.
    2) IPD heater valve, original style, that failed and will not shut off the heat.

So the effect goes beyond ScanTech.

On wheel bearings, many of your car parts places supply these at low cost. Have used Car Quest for replacements and they fit plus they were in stock. Believe they probably fit more than one brand of car.

Believe some of the Scan Tech stuff is not the greatest. Had an overflow bottle for the cooling system that had a split, so yes, beware.

      Hi,
Yes, my local car parts places are OK for getting bearings. But these were better.. I thought, and the price over the internet was lower than locally.
The main problem local isn't the bearings it's the grease seal. They are
different from other cars and locally they charge 2 times the price for
seals. What I get for $2-3 from Volvo parts suppliers becomes $5-9 a piece
      locally.

Thanks for all the responses! Happy rolling!

Yeah, I've also heard some bad things about that brand, like the upper strut bearing mount seperating from the rubber right after it was installed.

If I recall, there were some early IPD strut bearing failures (whoever the manufacturer was), and some KYB strut bearing failures, but I can't quite recall a ScanTech failure, although they may have been reported.

      Wow,
At least what happened to me wasn't that dangerous. Probably not able to
      return that bad part?
