Where to connect wire for Oil Pressure dummy light? 700

Hello,

I was investigating a problem with a non-functioning oil pressure dummy light. The light came on intermittently during driving, with no obvious relation to engine speed/temp/etc.. Then I noticed that the dummy light did not come on before the car was started, so I knew it must have been a loose connection.

I found the source of the problem - A single wire (insulated at parts) with a female connector on the end. When this is grounded, the dummy light comes on. Great, I found the source of the intermittent light, but where is this wire supposed to connect to? Any idea? None of the sensors in the block are missing any wires. I take it this wire is not supposed to be grounded but should somehow connect to the oil pressure sender? Does anyone know where this wire should be connected? Again, its a single black wire with a female connector on the end, and this is a 740T (no oil pressure gauge, just the dummy light)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

cheers,

-Justin Volvo

You should find it on the side of the engine block, about 4 inches above the oil pan, around the number 2 or 3 cylinder. It's probably kind of hidden by the exhaust manifold. Plus you've got the turbo mess in the way.

      Chris,

What exactly am I looking for? Is it in the block? Am I looking for just a male wire connector sticking out of the block? The area I seem to be looking at is almost totally obscured by the exh. manifold and oil cooler fitting. I can hardly even get my hand near there. I will keep searching for it!

      Thanks,

      Justin

The oil pressure sender looks rather like a sump plug, but with a single spade terminal sticking out. The female spade on the wire connects to it. Have a good feel round with your fingers, but you may find it easier with the front of the car in the air. Access from near the oil filter.

Thank you both for your help, I located the plug from the front of the engine compartment, located more-or-less under the #1 cylinder.

          Thanks again!

          -Justin
