Wheel size question..Steve Ringlee??? 900 1995

A co-worker of mine recently totalled her 940 in a snowstorm, and has offered me her 20-spoke Volvo alloy wheels before the salvage man takes her car to the boneyard.

Right now, my wife drives a 95 945T. I have the original window sticker noting that the car was sold with the 20 spoke alloys (no wheel "name" noted on dealer decal), but the car had steel wheels w/hubcaps when I bought it used from the dealer. I believe my co-worker's 940 was a 92 or 93. Will these wheels from a 92 or 93 940 fit my wife's 95 945T? I would really, really like to put alloys back on, both for looks and resale value.

Thanks, guys! 900 1995

BTW, I arranged to have a used set of steels put on her car, around $100 or so. Not exactly sure what kind of shape the wheels are in. Is there an easy way to tell if they are really bent up short of taking them somewhere where they "straigten" bent alloys?

Have them balanced. The spin-balancing machine will make it immediately obvious whether any of the rims have any defects.
Many shops will let you watch if you would like to see for yourself.
It's worth it to get them balanced before putting them on your car anyway.
Enjoy.

They will fit just fine. But Chris' comments are on target: they bend fairly easily, so make sure the wheels coming off are in good shape. And get some cheapie steel wheels to put back on the car so she is not dinged by the insurance company. BTW, the Chinese are now making an alloy clone of this wheel which retails for about $130 each. Nice copy. I have one and it has worked fine. Get it at a wheel store.

That's really interesting; I had no idea about the aftermarket wheels. The price is very good, especially compared to the price of recycled factory wheels.

I'm not Steve, but 900 1995

I have a car with those wheels. They fit across the 940 series. They're called Aries or something?

Those are really easy to bend; that's why a lot of 940s that came with them originally are now riding on steel wheels. A whole set of steels is about the cost of one of the alloys (from the dealer, anyway).

If you didn't know (maybe you did) the 940 that's being salvaged, if it is being taken by the insurance company, does not go to a 'boneyard'. It goes to a salvage pool. If your coworker had no insurance, however, then it probably is going straight to the junkyard. Just in case it IS going to the salvage pool, they can charge back her insurance settlement if the car shows up with no wheels, so it would be worthwhile to get something back on there, "Just in case..."

Should fit with no problems it was the 960 that changed offset after I think 95 or 96.
