when can one tell when ones power steering pump is about to go ? I have 152K+ miles on my car.

    Is the steering still easy to turn? Does it leak? Does it growl or make other unsavory noises? If not it's probably OK, those Saginaw (GM) pumps usually last a long time. I have almost 168k on mine and it's still going strong.

    I can only think of one of these pumps I've had actually fail. It was on a 1965 Impala SS I had restored a few years ago and I have no idea how many miles the pump had on it (a bunch, I would wager)but it just froze up about 30 seconds after I started it one day.
