Auto climate control ?'s 700

I have an 87 760turbo with the Automatic Climate Control. The heat/blower is supposed to turn on automatically when the coolant reaches a certain temp for adequate heating. The problem is that sometimes this takes a very long time or doesn't happen at all.(even when the car is at operating temp) Is there a sensor under the hood that measures coolant temp which could cause this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

I hate automatic anything

Thanks for your replies. I will look for that sensor on the block, as it would be nice to not wait for the heater while the car warms up. I thought of switching to manual controls but I think I lack the patience required. Isnt technology great?

Should be a sensor screwed into the block near cyl 4 on the intake side, with a single white wire to it. If you find the white wire, you can simply ground it and bypass the sensor.

Hello I agree they suck and the best thing to do is change it over to manual controls I have done about 6 auto to mans.It is pretty easy just go to salvage yard and get the head unit and cable that runs to the heater box shutter. I also have the print out some place around here from volvo on how to splice the vaccum lines and what colors go to what etc. oh and you will also need to get the vaccum hoses for the man and just cut the lines as long as possible from the wreck. you can e-mail me for further instructions at ronniew1975@aol.com. It is a one hour job that is worth the time and money.
