Aftermarket/Universal Oxygen Sensors 200 1990

If I do in fact need to replace this oxygen sensor, has anyone tried the cheaper universal fit oxygen sensors?

The new 02 sensor in the wifemobile (1988 244GL) is a Bosch 3-wire with Volvo connectors. Bought from John at VPI, I-10W at Wycliffe, just outside the SH Tollway. Less than $100. The universal would be cheaper, but the difference was what I paid to not solder, heat shrink, etc. AutoZone rents the crowfoot wrench. Makes the job easy. Use antisieze with GREAT care on the new one.

Call him 7213-722-0505. Tell him Bob C. said to call.

    Good Luck,

The Universal Bosch 3-wire sensor works GREAT. A little bit of splicing / soldering / heatshrinking is involved, but it is woth it! Do a search for numerous posts on this issue.

If your 240 has an original 3-wire sensor, then replace it with a 3-WIRE unit est $45). Do not be tempted to install a cheaper single-wire unit ($18), even in warmer climates! The heating element is needed! The engine computer will check the O2 Sensor in 60-90 seconds after cranking. If it does not detect the correct temp / heating element signal, then it will set a fault code and turn on the Check Engine light... over and over. (Ask me how I know!!! Other guys on the Brickboard clarified this issue.)

I installed my 3-wire replacement over 6k miles ago, and it runs fine!

I put in a Bosch 13942 3-wire sensor in my 91 245 a couple of weeks ago. 1/3 the price of the Bosch "volvo" part. Difference is, you have to solder the longer Volvo harness to the short Ford pigtail. Previous sensor lasted about 70K km, but I think I killed by neglecting to gap/change my plugs, which caused rick running. Hope my cats okay.

Use them all the time and there is no difference from my experience. Usually I buy the Bosch universal from IPS in Boise.
