Drivers side door mirror got clipped!! 700 1992

Hi All,

To make a long story short, my driver side door mirror got clipped the other day. The whole thing needed to be replaced. It was just ripped off its base. Nasty looking site. My junk dealer pulled one off a 92 960. I have two questions:

Since I currently did not have Heated Mirrors on my 740 and the mirror I received is from a 960, it would be a heated mirror...right. If so, then do I need to replace the Rear Defrost switch to a combo Defrost/Heater switch?

Next, because this is not a black 740 mirror the color of the mirror is Dark Red. It's fine now, however I will need to paint it to match my car. Either black or white (color of my car). I know how to remove the mirrors. Do I just prime and paint or is there another trick to this procedure. Any advice would be helpful.

Rough up the paint on the 960 mirror with very fine sandpaper. Use bumper and trim paint on it. It is meant for plastic like that. Also it would help to clean the roughened surface with prep solvent (paint thinner or such).

The heated mirror is probably not going to work as it is a different function. Maybe the wiring exists on 92 models. I haven't looked at the wiring diagram yet, but it's possible it's there. I would doubt it will be functional whether or not you replace the switch.
