Power steering pump 200 1989

Is changing out the power steering pump a difficult job, requiring any special tools? Mine is on the way out (It's noisy and it leaks).

Also, I now have a slight click (or knock) in the steering - at about the same interval regardless of a left or right hand turn. Related to the PS Pump perhaps?... Or is it something truely sinister.

Thanks.

The "knock" might be a bad U-joint in the steering column, probably the lower one. Not related to the pump, not sinister, but it is a slightly messy repair job.

The more typical symptom of a failing (binding) U-joint, however, is a "cogging" or "notching" or bind-turn-bind-turn of the wheel as you turn it from lock to lock.
