Are bumpers anodized? 140-160 1973

My bumpers look lousy.

I found some interesting looking stuff to make bumpers all shiny at

www.oxidizedaluminum.com (go figure)

Pricey stuff. Well, it *is* aimed at the BMW crowd, so there you have it.

But there are two kinds of products there. One for anodized parts, and one for non-anodized.

Being BMW guys, they have no idea whether Volvo bumpers are anodized or not.

Does anyone here know?

Yeah. Except where they are damaged or corroded.

Qustion:

If the bumpers are looking pretty bad, would it be safe to say the anodizing is pretty well shot anyway, and that a fairly aggressive compound is in order? (I don't know much about that sort of thing.)

Be careful not to remove any more of the anodizing than absolutely
necessary, because it protects the underlying aluminum. If you know
someone in the plating/treating business you might want to talk to
them about re-anodizing. Once you polish the aluminum it will be a
slightly different color than the anodized part and will dull with time,
so it requires repolishing.
