Fuel pump noise 700 1989

I have a 760 Turbo/intercooler.. Last week after a 45min drive at 70mph, i came to a stop and noticed a very poor idle. Almost instantaneously i also noticed more than usual noise coming from the main fuel pump under the car. After checking this very helpful board, I came to the conclusion that the fuel prepump was bad. I purchased a replacement pre-pump (AC part number EP302)as well as a new sock (AC part number TS-1)
After replacing the pre-pump and sock, i buttoned everything back up. Time for the moment of truth.. Turned the key and it took quite a while to finally crank over. I attributed this to possibly air in the system. However, the car cranked and the idle was better, but still poor. Also, the main pump began making noise again. I stuck my ear to the filler hole and could hear the new pre-pump. To make sure, i inserted a length of hose down the tube and listened. The new pre-pump seems to be working. I took the car for a drive. Power is VERY poor and the car surges as if starving..
Please help... Main pump?
Thanks in advance for ANY help...
warren..

You can have a fuel pressure regulator that is on the way out or a plugged fuel filter. For the FPR, pull off the vacuum line and sniff...if you smell or see gas, it's dying. Just a couple of thoughts.
