M46 questions 700

I need some dimensions from a 7 series people with m46's. You may have noticed that I'm working with John Parker on T5 adapters for 240's.

So heres what I need to know:
Are the bellhousing between the 7 and 2 series the same.
If so, then it's safe to assume the input shafts are the same length and pilot bearings

So, how do they get differen't shifter positions. It would be safe to assume that this is made up with different lengths in the linkage. So, could someone please give me an dimension from the back of the bellhousing to the where the shifter would sit in neutral (doesn't have to be exact). This would let us come up with a solution for 7 you series owners.

Thanks guys!

Doug

The bell housings are the same as are the input shafts and pilot bearings. It is 24.5" from the rear of the bell housing to the center of the shift linkage pivot.

I have an M46 which was originally in a 240 in my wife's 745T. I had to change the shift linkage, throwout arm and ball stud, and output flange for the swap.

What T5 ratios are available? Please keep me posted.

Thank you John, thats the EXACT info I needed!

      Heres a link to T5 info. http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/t5_history.htm

What were looking for is World Class 5.0l motored T5's. The 10 spline units have clutch discs that fit the volvo pressure plate.

If your intrested in one, even if not this moment, please contact John at v-performance.com The more of us that are intrested the more likely he can do them, and cheap! :D

I guess my question for this one is will a custom clutch disk be available or is the spline count the same between the T-5 (V8) and the sachs disk used by Volvo?
Another question would be the reliability of the warner T5 vs the volvo M46. I remember many a problem with the T5's, syncro problems, bearings and broken shift forks, I have yet to see a M46 break from even severe abuse such as power shifts on a B28 running redline. Not saying the T5 idea is bad however if I was in a position of transmission selection everything being equal with mounting I would choose te M46. Got any adapters to fit an M46 to an oldsmobile 350 by chance?

Badge, you have to be kidding right? I've destroyed one beind a stock 82 non IC'd 242ti, and have a buddy who has destroyed ( I mean killed ) 3 of them in 2 years. The m46's are terrible. The T5's are much stronger stock, and have a huge aftermarket for parts.

As for the t56, they require quite a bit more work, including cuting the floorboard to make it fit and other items. As for the adapter fitting it though, I can find out!

Oh, I forgot to mention. Centerforce makes a clutch disc for the 10 spline T5 that is the same size as the volvo disc. So I'm hoping you can use the volvo pressure plate and the Ford disc.

Ahh, clutchmasters I have given them some serious thought. I'm thinking the T5 will need some serious smack down!
