Steering Gear 1985 240DL 200 1985

I have an 85 240 DL. After completing a left turn and the wheels are going back to a straight line there is a hard knock feeling and the steering wobbles for a second or two. I think it is the steering gear and the whole assembly needs to be replaced, but most posts say don't replace the whole unit. I could use some help on this one. Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,

The part where you say it wobbles for a second or two is kinda bothersome. It took my focus from the ujoints in the steering shaft to the suspension. I don't know what the trouble is, but it does sound rather serious from the safety standpoint. Have you checked out stuff like ball joints, bushings, sway bar, tie rod ends? Lots cheaper than a rack. And very important to keep you moving straight down the road.
