Turbo sways and 245 coils are in. All is right with the world. 200 1987

Cant say I've done such a simple upgrade and been so happy with the results. Tossed in the front and rear sway bars from a turbo, added some rear coil springs from a wagon new rear shocks also. This is not the same car I've ben driving around. The handling is so much better, also got a slight rise in the rear with the 245 springs. Cant wait to rebuild the front suspension, and bolt on some more goodies Thanx for everybody that tosses in their 2 cents in this forum.

About the only other thing I would suggest for your suspension (assuming bushings and ball joints are OK, and you have good tires & wheels) for cheap is the upper strut tower braces. After sway bars, HD springs and bushings I added the upper braces, and I could definitely feel the difference - improved crispness in turn-in response and steering crispness. In contrast, the lower braces (crossmember to rear A-arm bushing mount) added a bit of harshness to the ride (not objectionable) but no apparent improvement in handling. If tax return allows I may treat the 245 to the tower-to-tower upper braces this year.

Cool, how much of a rise did you get in the rear with the wagon springs? I have a set I can get my hands on and might put them on when I do my trailing arm bushings as I think my rear (hehe) is sagging a bit more that than what is being caused by the bushings.

    Thanks,

      245 rear coils... 200 1987

I replaced the rear coils on my 78 242 with 245 coils - as well, I replaced the front coils with a set from a diesel 244.

The 245 rear coils did not give much of a lift, but fully loaded -there was no rear end sag. So I added a lift block under the rear coils that gave about a 3" lift.

The diesel front coils added about a 2 1/2 inch lift.

The car rides and handle great. Still a few goodies to add.

The next thing is a tower to tower to firewall brace.

      Hey Justin
I got a good inch or more with the springs. You could tell from the outside of the car, but when I jumped in it and took a look down the hood, you could definitly tell the difference. I got mine from a yard for $10 for both so it was well worth it. Just wish it wasnt raining when I changed them out. Ah, if only I had a garage now.

    Patrick,
I know. Can`t wait till I get to that point myself although I`ve recently done my front end sans springs and shocks. Nonetheless the car feels alot better than it did.
Next priority is to do the tranny rear bushing/seal, rear axle fluid, gasket/seal then replace the rear calipers/rotors, lines and shocks.
Good thing is that I can restore this baby and still drive it every day.
    Good luck with yours.
