LOWWWWW rear end?????? 700

91' 740, I was thinking about installing a set of the wagon springs in the rear. I was reading that they are heavier duty that the sedan ones, is this true? The previous owner had 3 - 70lb. sand bags in the trunk for 5 years straight.. Looks like i'm doing a wheelie all over town...What are opinions of this swap?? Is it worth it, and how much will the ride be changed??? TIA
Sam

Did the 740 ever come with the self-leveling springs? Maybe worn out nivomat shocks are your problem. This is just a guess, but I figured that failed shocks would be more common than worn springs. HTH

I don't think it is the shocks, I pulled them out and the appear to be in good condition. I am thinking that the 210lbs for a straight 5 years played a major role of the spring sag. It,s about 3" lower than it should be.

Shouldn't be any issues with fitting either new sedan springs, heavy duty springs, wagon springs, or whatever you find. Sounds like the PO deformed the springs by continuous overload. 200 lbs doesnt' sound like that much, but maybe he carried a LOT more sometimes.
I bet he complained about fuel mileage too....

Now I am just wondering if the heavy duty springs are going to look funny, since i'm used to it being sooo low. I guess i'll cross that bridge when I get there...The cheapest I have found them around is $52 each, not too bad if you ask me. It looks like a pretty straight forward install. Thanks all for the help!

I've put 240 springs on my 140s. I don't know if the 740
is the same but on a 240 it takes about 10 minutes per side
to pull springs at a salvage yard. Wagon springs are stiffer
than sedan springs and I've seen some wacky springs that are
progressive (pulled em and put em on my 164...). Salvage yard
springs were $14 each.

I think the stock springs are the same but you can indeed fit heavy duty springs to the wagon. Better ask FCP Groton or similar if they fit the sedans.
